What Happens At Your First Visit?
Visiting our office is similar to visiting other healthcare providers. The office setting and intake procedures will be familiar, but there are some differences too.
Our Clinical Focus
Instead of trying to battle diseases, we focus on improving the health and function of your body so you can heal yourself. You will experience this as soon you begin your care in our facility.
Our Primary Tools
You will also notice that we use our hands. We will examine the area by hand, feeling for tenderness, edema, swelling, spasm, movement, and even temperature differences. Additionally, we will examine other areas that may be linked to the problem.
Procedures
A exam with Dr. Quartell includes:
- Initial intake forms
- Comprehensive consultation
- Structural physical assessment
- X-Rays, if necessary
- Chiropractic treatment
- Develop a treatment plan
Comprehensive Consultation
We use the term ‘comprehensive’ because we like to ask a lot of specific questions. This gives you an opportunity to discuss your primary problem, as well as your overall health. The more we gather specific information, the better our decision making process for your care.
Typical Topics:
- Current Complaint
- Physical History
- Medical History
- Prior Trauma
- Sleep
- Digestion
- Lifestyle
We encourage you to ask questions, too.
As in any doctor-patient relationship, trust and mutual understanding are vitally important. It’s also very important for you to feel understood during our communication.
Chiropractic Physical Exam
Your exam will begin in the area(s) of your primary complaint. Then we shift our focus to those areas that could be compensating from or contributing to your problem.
In other words, we look at the whole body.
The physical exam
We typically begin with a general assessment followed by an extensive analysis:
- Posture visualization – asymmetry and alignment
- Motion palpation – hyper or hypo
- Static palpation – tissue changes and tenderness
- Range of motion abnormalities
- Orthopedic and neurological tests
- X-rays if necessary
Treatment and Recommendations
Based on the complexity of your case, we work to formulate an accurate diagnosis ASAP. And most times, we begin treatment on the same day.
What Goes Into A Treatment Plan?
Your first treatment provides two benefits. First, we hope you receive some therapeutic relief from your complaint. Second, your response to treatment gives us valuable diagnostic information. We use this to formulate your personal recommendations.
Upon reviewing your examination results, Dr. Quartell and Dr. Perez will together develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Some people seek simple relief of pain of discomfort, while many others want to get rid of the problem so that it doesn’t come back. Our recommendations will include both types of treatment.
By the end of your first visit, you should expect:
- Did we accept your case?
- A basic understanding of your condition.
- A working diagnosis of your complaint.
- Chiropractic treatment if clinically indicated.
- Opportunity to follow up for a review the exam findings.
- Referral if necessary
Whatever your needs, Dr. Quartell and Dr. Perez will let you know what reasonable results should be expected.
